Introduction

After all, who is the worst champion in the history of LoR?

Now that we know Riot Games won't release any new champion to the game anytime soon, I decided to ask myself this question - which many players who have never played PvP might not be able to answer.

We've discussed the worst champions in LoR many times before, but, after a lot of research with professional players and the best deckbuilders in the game, we have finally reached a consensus. These are the worst champions in the history of LoR.

Let's see them!

5th Place - Tryndamere

Our first champion is Tryndamere, a champion who has slowly become unplayable throughout the years.

Though he is one of the worst champions in the entire game now, he was once popular. More specifically, he was popular when the game first came out, in 2020 and 2021.

He also saw some play when Lissandra was released, as he was a good addition to Feel the Rush and Warmother's Call lists.

However, after Volibear came along and Titanic cards were introduced, literally all Freljord cards that cost more than 8 mana or have more than 8 power became better than Tryndamere.

He was the victim of one of the biggest power creeps in the history of the game: the "Fate's Voyage" set.

As "removals" that return cards to your hand became more popular, and Karma Sett started dominating the meta, we had no reason to play Tryndamere in any Freljord deck.

Then, the Elder Dragon came along, and made it all worse. Meta decks had an explosive late game, with many impactful effects, like Heisho, Shell of the World and Cithria, Lady of Clouds. The meta simply didn't have space for a card without any effects like Tryndamere.

Because he didn't have many support cards, and the metas had become either too slow or too fast for him, Tryndamere became one of the most forgotten cards in the entire game.

4th Place - Malphite

Malphite is our 4th worst champion in LoR, but he was once our 3rd worst champion. We promoted him because, in 2022, he was given an extra effect that lets you Stun a target when you play him. Yeah, he didn't do that before.

Historically, building an efficient list with Malphite's support cards has always been a problem. Only a few people managed to build consistent lists with him, and only his list with Taliyah was competitive. This was the only list that did well in big tournaments, back in 2023.

Other than that, he never really fit any deck, and none of his lists were strong enough to rank among the best decks.

His biggest issue is that, whenever you add him to a list, he tends to be the worst card in that list. Some players often played 1 or 2 copies of him precisely because of this.

His level 2 effect is extremely powerful, but, to level him up, you'll need to spend 10 mana in Landmarks, which is both too specific and slow.

You'll only be able to play level 2 Malphite and use his spell to Stun the entire board in a few matches.

Cards like Nopeify! and metas dominated by Ionia decks have always been a problem for Malphite archetypes as well. Ever since he was released, he never really fit any meta - all except the competitive scene in mid-2023.

Eventually, his decks evolved into Taliyah Zilean archetypes. Nowadays, you'll rarely find him or any of his support cards in any list.

3rd Place - Soraka

Soraka might have been essential in one of the most frustrating LoR lists of all time, but she was always firmly tied to a specific archetype that struggled a lot as the years went on.

She was never really that popular outside of her Star Spring archetype with Tahm Kench. On the other side, he managed to fit other lists, like Ashe Tahm Kench, and even showed up in a few tier 3, tier 4 decks that answered certain 2021/2022 metas.

As for Soraka, she was forgotten and only showed up when the meta favored the Star Spring list. And here's the problem: this list was only strong 4 to 6 months after it was released. After that, it was always considered a Rogue list, tier-3 or below.

In Eternal, this list loses to practically everything, so Soraka is even more unplayable there.

2nd Place - Kalista

To no one's surprise, we have Kalista in our second place. She is known for being a bad champion.

However, that wasn't always the case. During the 2020 Beta season, she was at the forefront of the Aggro Shadow Isles archetypes, and was relatively relevant at the beginning of the Rising Tides season. After that, she was never strong, not even after she was reworked.

Other champions, like Nocturne and Vex, started dominating aggro archetypes, and eventually made Kalista obsolete.

Furthermore, she always competed for space with Elise, and was often most players' second pick.

She does have great stats, as well as a lot of life, but, because of how Combo modern Aggro Shadow Isles lists are, she lost space in these lists. She is no longer the best turn-3 play, so she was pushed out.

Nowadays, you're better off setting up a combo with The Iron Conquest or betting on cards like Mistwraith and Buhru Sentinel.

1st Place - Lucian

The worst champion in the entire game is, without a question, Lucian.

He was never in any relevant, competitive list. He only showed up next to Illaoi in the Heart of the Huntress set, and, even then, he was the worst card in this list.

Literally all removals in the game are great against Lucian, and, in all metas, there was some card that killed him as soon as he entered the board. Lucian is incredibly fragile, and, most times, whoever played him couldn't even protect him because his type of list plays with very few cards in hand, as in, they didn't play any defensive spells. Most players already knew saving Lucian was a losing game - he was going to die eventually anyway.

His rework was actually a nerf, and, after the devs made him 1 mana and nerfed his stats, he disappeared completely.
